Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that if the stars came out only one night in a thousand, people would stay up all night gazing at them.
The Gaze and Praise event started with my Psalm a Day online group– cleverly named because we read one Psalm every day, discuss it, and pray and encourage each other. Psalm 8 captures David’s incredible understanding about God as creator. After seeing God’s splendor and power displayed in the sun, moon, and stars, David asks, “What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him?” David is completely captivated by God’s great love! He grasps God’s care and understands what a wonderful world God made for us to live and work. And this is just based off of what David saw with his naked eye! Today the telescope helps us look beyond what our eyes alone can see.
When I consider your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of Him? Psalm 8:3-4
Can you imagine looking up into the night sky and seeing the stars for the first time?
I invite you to deliberately experience God’s care and love by gazing into the stars, expecting to be completely overtaken and, like David, be utterly amazed by the creator. Then in quiet stillness, witness to His power and sovereignty , praise Him…for who He is and what He has done. You name the time, the location, and the people with whom you share this event.
In my area, it’s a rainy week. But the forecast reveals a clear sky for this Saturday night. I plan to grab my mom and a few friends, settle on the deck with a cup of cocoa…and Gaze and Praise.
If you would like to share with others about your experience, we would love to hear! Leave your comments on this blog!
